How to configure default route on juniper

 

In this Tutorial we share how to configure default route on juniper.

Step 1

Juniper 1 Initial  configure

set system root-authentication plain-text-password

New password:
Retype new password:

set interfaces em1 unit 0 family inet address 192.168.1.2/24

set interfaces em0 unit 0 family inet address 192.168.2.1/24

commit

Juniper 2 Initial  configure

set system root-authentication plain-text-password

New password:
Retype new password:

set interfaces em0 unit 0 family inet address 192.168.1.1/24

set interfaces em1 unit 0 family inet address 192.168.3.1/24

commit

Juniper 1 Default Route Configure

set routing-options static route 0.0.0.0/0 next-hop 192.168.1.1

commit

Juniper 2 Default Route Configure

set routing-options static route 0.0.0.0/0 next-hop 192.168.1.2

commit

 

Verification

root# run show route

inet.0: 5 destinations, 5 routes (5 active, 0 holddown, 0 hidden)

please note that juniper router default route AD value are 5.

now we check reachability through ping

PC1> ping 192.168.3.2

84 bytes from 192.168.3.2 icmp_seq=2 ttl=62 time=11.561 ms
84 bytes from 192.168.3.2 icmp_seq=3 ttl=62 time=13.658 ms
